4/23/13 - The Mississippi man released on Tuesday after being detained and accused of sending ricin-laced letters to President Barack Obama and Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), according to his attorney, Christi McCoy, was framed. In an interview with CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, McCoy said that her client, Kevin Curtis, was the victim of an elaborate plot which set him up as the person responsible for sending a deadly poison to some of America's most prominent elected officials.

"The case has not been dismissed," McCoy told Cuomo when asked why Curtis' preliminary hearing was cancelled and he was released from detention on Tuesday.

"You're saying he's the wrong guy?" Cuomo asked. McCoy said that Curtis is innocent of the charges against him.
"I do believe that the government did what they believe was in everyone -- everyone's best interest because of where the evidence pointed at that time," McCoy replied.
She said that Curtis is an "activist" and is passionate about the organ and tissue donation industry. McCoy said that the signature which Curtis used on social media outlets, "I am KC and I approve this message," became of interest to authorities when that signature was discovered on the ricin-laced letters sent to elected officials.
"You think somebody was trying to frame him?" Cuomo asked.
"I absolutely do," McCoy replied.
Boston Bombers Wife Releases Statement
Katherine Russell, the 24-year-old widow of Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaeva, released a short statement through her lawyer, Amato DeLuca, on Tuesday morning. It was the first time she has spoken out since the terror attack unfolded last Monday (although her mother did previously release a brief written comment following Tsarnaeva's death).
Our firm is representing Katherine Russell and she has asked us to make a short statement. As you know from news reports, Katie married her husband in June of 2010. Since then, she has been living in Cambridge, raising her child and working long hours, caring for people in their homes who are unable to care for themselves. Katie grew up in Rhode Island and has always remained close to her parents and sisters here, as well as her extended family. She is fortunate to have the support of her loving family now, as they struggle to come to terms with these events and the deep sorrow we all feel following the events of last week. In exigent circumstances, or emergency situations, police can conduct warrantless searches to protect public safety. This exception to the Fourth Amendment's probable cause requirement normally addresses situations of "hot pursuit," in which an escaping suspect is tracked to a private home. But it might also apply to the events unfolding in Boston if further harm or injury might be supposed to occur in the time it takes to secure a warrant.
This activity, once again, sets a shocking precedent. Police and military are training in these circumstances every single day of the year. They are fully acclimatized to the process, as if it is completely normal. Much of Middleton's story rehashes his previous reporting, which makes yesterday's article a bit confusing. Nevertheless, the IBRC precedent does indicate Irish pensioners should not rest easy.
Last February, the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation (IBRC; previously Anglo Irish Bank) was placed in "special liquidation" -- basically, setting up a "bad bank" structure to deal with bad loans. Liquidation hasn't been without controversy, as pensioners lost savings. Middleton didn't provide a full citation on the Niall Brady story (elevate your game, Reggie). But Ireland does appear to be moving in the direction of not backstopping pensions, as the IBRC example indicates. We'll keep an eye on this story.
