The revelation that Rolling Stone journalist Michael Hastings was working on a story about the CIA before his death and had contacted a Wikileaks lawyer about being under investigation by the FBI hours before his car exploded into flames has bolstered increasingly valid claims that the 33-year-old was assassinated. Hastings died early Tuesday morning in Hollywood when his car allegedly hit a tree at high speed. The Los Angeles Coroner's office has not yet been able to officially identify the body as Hastings because it is so badly burned.

Officials with the Los Angeles County coroner's office could not immediately confirm if the 33-year-old Hastings was the person who died around 4:25 a.m. when a car smashed into a tree and caught fire on Highland Avenue near Melrose Avenue in the Hancock Park area. The circumstances of the crash were under investigation, but a cameraman at the scene said the vehicle, a Mercedes, was being driven at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred. The car's engine ended up 200 feet away from the collision site, he said. Lt. Fred Corral of the coroner's office said the body was burned beyond recognition, and the identity of the victim would not be known until at least Wednesday. The Hancock Park crash was the only fatal car wreck in the city today, according to police. However, Ben Smith, editor in chief of BuzzFeed.com, issued a statement announcing Hastings' death in a car accident in Los Angeles, saying the journalist's BuzzFeed colleagues were ``shocked and devastated by the news that Michael Hastings in gone.'' ``Michael was a great, fearless journalist with an incredible instinct for the story, and a gift for finding ways to make his readers care about anything he covered from wars to politicians,'' Smith said. ``He wrote stories that would otherwise have gone unwritten, and without him there are great stories that will go untold. Michael was also a wonderful, generous colleague and a joy to work with. Our thoughts are with Elise (his wife) and the rest of his family and we are going to miss him.'' Hastings was perhaps most famous for his candid 2010 Rolling Stone interview with McChrystal, who was then commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan and was critical of the White House's oversight of the military. His comments resulted in the general being summoned to Washington, D.C., and his eventual resignation. Apple, Facebook and Google were among nine tech firms named as having participated (wittingly or unwittingly) in the controversial NSA PRISM we surveillance programme. The 41-page presentation was given in April this year and made public by the Washington Post.
The Apple statement, although it reveals the number of requests Cupertino complied with, it continues to deny allowing gov bods to access its servers, stating: "We first heard of the government's 'Prism' program when news organizations asked us about it on June 6."
Since the exposure of the programme through the actions of former CIA contractor Edward Snowden, US tech firms have been lobbying the government to allow them to provide more details to their customers on the extent to which they have helped the authorities with their inquiries. Spy chiefs were against this disclosure but politicians appear to have overruled them and allowed tech giants to provide more details on wiretap requests than had been permitted with previous transparency reports from the likes of Google and Microsoft.
This move is clearly designed, at least in part, to reassure businesses and consumers that data held by US technology firms is not subject to dragnet surveillance, a concern that might prompt enterprises and international consumers to look for alternatives to US-based services.

This is what the people thought could never happen in the United States or Britain, that they could be brutalized and killed if they step too far out of line. If this sounds shocking then it just highlights the truth that we have somehow foolishly believed that the government care about us. We have believed that the government would never hurt its own people.
People are finally waking up from the chloroform and realizing the shocking truth that they are suppressed by a very dark and destructive group of people who will do virtually anything to keep them in line.
We watched the protesters being brutalized and killed by their governments in Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, Syria, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia. We then watched as NATO, the United States, British and French governments condemned the violence by these governments on their own citizens. That was their excuse to send troops in to snatch their land, and rich oil reserves, and to strategically place themselves to further take over the Middle East, and perpetuate the genocide they are creating.
It is amazing to me to think we have thought for all these years that our own governments would not brutalise, and ultimately kill us or anyone uprising against them. The government and banking cartels will not pack their bags and leave on demand, or change their systems, which make them billionaires. The population are their slaves that are used to produce their fortunes, by working for them and being kept in huge debt by them, that is how it works. The people’s working time and energy is what feeds the billionaires. They are energy leeches, so to think that they will just quietly leave is a bit naive.
On the contrary the government will order its police and troops to control the crowds who are the governments slaves, and bash them back into line by force or death if need be. This is the shocking realization taking place for the people now in the United States, and the more the demonstrators push the more this will be revealed. For me it has been obvious for many years, but for most people it will be a shock to realise that they live in one big concentration camp where they must work and do what they are told or suffer the brutal consequences. Of course this truth would stay hidden as long as everyone behaved, and would only become evident when they didn’t.
How we ever imagined things had changed much since HenryV111 battered down the uprisings when he ordered that ‘no mercy was to be shown to those commoners who had dared to show disloyalty to the king’. The Queen of England is the 32nd great granddaughter of King Alfred. Can you imagine what would happen if people were to congregate around Buckingham Palace and complain that things weren’t fair, demanding change.
But after stating these obvious truths I will say that great and positive changes are taking place, and we stand on the horizon of the most fascinating transformation in our history, where every person will make their own personal contribution to the manifestation of a completely new system where brutality, war, murder, money and slavery will just be horrifying pages in a history book.

Michael Hastings Death Brings About Conspiracy Theories, Reporter's Deadly Car Crash, CIA
The apparent death of Michael Hastings, the young investigative journalist known for ruffling feathers among the nation's power elite, has brought with it a wave of unanswered questions and speculation. Best known for a Rolling Stone article that led to the firing of Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the 33-year-old BuzzFeed reporter died in a car accident in Los Angeles early Tuesday morning, according to a statement released by Ben Smith, BuzzFeed's editor-in-chief.
While the journalistic community has largely reacted to the news with an outpouring of grief, online forums have been running wild with conspiracy theories, and why wouldn't they? Some of the details surrounding the story read like a poorly written political thriller. As of Wednesday morning, the Los Angeles County coroner's office still hadn't determined that an "unrecognizable" body pulled from a fiery solo car crash was actually Hastings, according to the Los Angeles Times. (The body is identified only as "John Doe 117.")
Meanwhile, LA Weekly reports that Hastings was reporting extensively on the CIA at the time of his death, and the Guardian's Glenn Greenwald pointed out that Hastings' last article for BuzzFeed was on the NSA and the Democrats' love of spying on Americans.
In Hastings' 2012 book, "The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan," he writes of a McChrystal staffer who allegedly said to him, "We'll hunt you down and kill you if we don't like what you write."
At the very least, there are still many dots to be connected, but as is often the case with unusual news stories, the real conspiracy-theory fireworks are on Reddit -- in particular, one RIP Hastings thread in which users have been running amok with Reddit-esque guesswork about how Hastings' enemies might have pulled off such a deed.
"I wonder how small a remote driving device would be," one user speculated.
"Don't need that, just mess up his brakes and fuel line," another user replied. "Car slides, crashes and catches fire."
Others suggested "throttle sabotage," a manipulation that would prevent a car from decelerating and which could explain the vehicle's reported high speed at the time of the crash. Yet another user postulated that the "unrecognizable" body suggests abduction, not murder. Finally, one Redditor issued a warning to journalists investigating the case: Don't dig too deep.
"Stick with the party line if you want a long happy life," the user posted.
Other comments on different threads posted to the "Conspiro" subreddit contained similar sentiments:
"Full disclosure: I don't [know] what They were targeting him for, besides his reputation. Was it what he found or what he was about to find or that if he worked on the story, he would've definitely found something. I think this is the possible start of a trend of taking out investigative journos."
Reddit wasn't the only forum where Hastings conspiracy theorists were expressing themselves. Twitter users put forth some thoughts as well, albeit less creatively.
