Venezuelans have been hit by a chronic toilet paper shortage leading to empty supermarket shelves and long queues to snap up the remaining rolls.

When new stocks arrive at supermarkets customers have been rushing in to fill their trollies.
The country is used to a scarcity of basic food items such as milk and sugar but even by the country's usual standards the toilet paper shortage has caused considerable consumer panic.
One 70-year-old woman said she had been trying to find toilet rolls for two weeks before locating a few rolls in a supermarket in Caracas. Maria Rojas said: "Even at my age, I've never seen this." Another customer in the same supermarket, Maria Perez, said: "Here there's a shortage of everything - butter, sugar, flour." But, she added: "There always used to be toilet paper."
President Nicolas Maduro, who was chosen by the dying Hugo Chavez to carry on running the country and won April's election, claims it is a conspiracy to destabilise the country.
However, the government has agreed to import an extra 50 million toilet rolls to cope with demand.
His Commerce Minister Alejandro Fleming said "excessive demand" for tissue had built up due to a "media campaign that has been generated to disrupt the country." He said monthly consumption of toilet paper was normally 125 million rolls, but current demand "leads us to think that 40 million more are required."
"We will bring in 50 million to show those groups that they won't make us bow down," he said.
Economists say Venezuela's shortages of some consumer products stem from price controls meant to make basic goods available to the poorest parts of society and the government's controls on foreign currency. Steve Hanke, professor of economics at Johns Hopkins University in the US, said: "State-controlled prices - prices that are set below market-clearing price - always result in shortages. The shortage problem will only get worse, as it did over the years in the Soviet Union."
But economic theory does little to help those down to their last few sheets.
"I've been looking for it for two weeks," Cristina Ramos said at one store. "I was told that they had some here and now I'm in the queue."
Many factories operate at half capacity because the currency controls make it hard for them to pay for imported parts and materials.

Breaking Our Previous Financial Agreements to Government
Divorcing ourselves from previous agreements is sometimes necessary to create freedom ahead.
To create and manifest the new out of the old we sometimes have to break previous agreements and attachments to be able to move ahead. This comes in many forms which can be ties with ourselves which release us from old constraints, ties to others, and ties to the system we are living in. Contracts with ourselves must often be broken to release us into new vistas of possibilities which could not materialize should we still stay as we are.
This can sometimes feel painful and daunting but often we have to give up what we’ve got to get what we want, and give up who we were to become who we really are. A caterpillar breaks its agreement to being a caterpillar or wouldn’t be able to metamorphose into a beautiful butterfly. But the caterpillar doesn’t have to resent its previous existence, it can respect and honor what it was, but must still step away from it into what it is to become which breaks that previous contract with being a caterpillar, or it cannot progress.
The Toltec shamans talked of the importance of being able to break old agreements, as have other older wisdom traditions. Many people stay in ‘the safety’ of an agreement, which can sometimes be the wisest decision, but not if it is keeping someone from blossoming into the magnificent physical and spiritual being which they are, and certainly not if the agreement is killing their souls, keeping them as slaves and ravaging the planet they live on.
We are now breaking our old contract and agreement to the current global system that we have served for hundreds if not thousands of years. The interesting point is that we never really signed any formal agreement or contract, but the massive fear that underpins our society is what steered us to serve the system as its slaves. This has been deeply imprinted into our minds and souls, and each generation is born into the same acceptance of the unseen and unspoken, but very real agreement and contract which their parents and their parents were born into, of slavery by fear.
The importance of being fluid and flexible at this crucial moment in human history can’t be overstated, and nature shows us again and again that if it is not prepared to be flexible it will pay a heavy price. The agreements that we have made with the system currently in place are very deeply embedded in our souls, and we have believed them to be true for a very long time, and walked that agreement every day of our lives. We have become like rabbits in the headlights, paralyzed by the nightmare we are trapped in. We are absolute hero’s to have endured it so long, doing our best to stay cheerful in this concentration camp.
I have talked a lot about how we manifest and create with thought. This is what is taking place now, as people everywhere have decided to break that unseen, and unspoken agreement they were funneled into with lies and deceit. The most important thing for us all as we break these agreements is to visualize a system beyond it, and believe we can achieve that vision, without any influence or control from the oligarchs.
When we break this contract we must be very careful not to make any other agreements or be tempted to accept any help from the slave masters that have controlled humanity for thousands of years. We must become independent. The US Government’s attempt to close the conduit ‘Dual’ to usurp the Bitcoin phenomenon, absolutely proves they are committed to keeping everyone enslaved to their own money system only, and their action has made a clear statement to everyone that ‘You are our slaves, you can only use our currency and we will punish anyone who tries to leave the prison of debt and slavery that we keep you in for your entire lifetime’. The US governments reaction is yet another whiff of smelling salts to re mind, and re awaken people to the prison they are in, which they were told was freedom and democracy, though of course it is the complete opposite: Imprisonment and slavery.
Bitcoin, the digital, virtual online currency is the canary in the cage, and has shown us that we are indeed prisoners to this system, designed for debt and to trap the people in its lifetime web like a spider does, though the spider is less cruel than the unscrupulous oligarchs, at least the spider lures you into its web, ties you up, rendering you helpless then eats you in a couple of weeks, whereas the ruthless governments who have enslaved humanity, trap people in the web of debt, and keeps them alive feeding off their energy for their whole lives, literally as slaves in their work camp using their currency and nothing else, which they give us then we give it back when we spend it again.
Governments worldwide have made it illegal to use any currency other than theirs, what an audacity, making it clear that we are their slaves and we will not escape the prison they have forced us into. He then asked Miller to name the names of those responsible for targeting conservative groups ... a question Miller couldn't answer.

SHOCKING: Toronto Mayor Rob Ford Smokes CRACK Caught on Tape
Rob Ford, proud Canadian and Toronto mayor, was caught on tape smoking crack in the ghetto. Ford is famous for his heavy drinking and conservative notions of race and sexual orientation, but crack smoking might be a new low for him. The tape is in the hands of a shady character related to Ford's deceased drug dealer Anthony Smith, who was shot to death in front of a night club two months ago. The tape will go to the highest bidder, and it allegedly shows Ford smoking rock and laughing like a hyena.
(The Star) A cellphone video that appears to show Mayor Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine is being shopped around Toronto by a group of Somali men involved in the drug trade. Two Toronto Star reporters have viewed the video three times. It appears to show Ford in a room, sitting in a chair, wearing a white shirt, top buttons open, inhaling from what appears to be a glass crack pipe. Ford is incoherent, trading jibes with an off-camera speaker who goads the clearly impaired mayor by raising topics including Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau and the Don Bosco high school football team Ford coaches. "I'm f---ing right-wing," Ford appears to mutter at one point. "Everyone expects me to be right-wing. I'm just supposed to be this great...." and his voice trails off. At another point he is heard calling Trudeau a "fag." Later in the 90-second video he is asked about the football team and he appears to say (though he is mumbling), "they are just f---ing minorities." The Star had no way to verify the authenticity of the video, which appears to clearly show Ford in a well-lit room. The Star was told the video was shot during the past winter at a house south of Dixon Rd. and Kipling Avenue. What follows is an account based on what both reporters viewed on the video screen. Attempts to reach the mayor and members of his staff to get comment on this story were unsuccessful. A lawyer retained by Ford, Dennis Morris, said that Thursday evening's publication by the U.S.-based Gawker website of some details related to the video was "false and defamatory." Morris told the Star that by viewing any video it is impossible to tell what a person is doing. "How can you indicate what the person is actually doing or smoking?" Morris said.

Four decades ago, the Nixon administration attempted to block The New York Times from publishing a secret history of the Vietnam War leaked to the newspaper by whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg. Two days after the Times first published excerpts of what became known as the "Pentagon Papers," the Nixon government asked for and received a Supreme Court injunction against the newspaper, arguing that publication of the documents posed a "grave and immediate danger to the security of the United States." We speak to James Goodale, the general counsel at The New York Times during the Pentagon Papers crackdown. Goodale is a leading legal expert on the First Amendment and has just published a new book, "Fighting for the Press: The Inside Story of the Pentagon Papers and Other Battles." Goodale said he wrote book in part because of the work of Julian Assange of the whistleblowing website WikiLeaks, and how he is likely being targeted by the U.S. government in an ongoing grand jury probe. "My book is meant to be a clarion call to the journalist community. Wake up! There's danger out there," Goodale says. "You may not like Assange . But wake up! The first amendment is really going to be damaged. If Obama goes forward and succeeds, he will have succeeded where Nixon failed."

Rachel Maddow Reveals More Scandalous Details About IRS Tea Party Targeting
5/16/13 - Rachel Maddow tonight highlighted another potential problem in the growing IRS targeting scandal plaguing the Obama administration this week. The tax-collecting agency provided private tax information about several conservative groups, including ones whose applications had not been fully processed yet, to the website ProPublica. Maddow said that strictly speaking, this was illegal, and will only make things worse for the IRS.
Maddow claimed that the Tea Party now suddently "wants to be back on the wings of the IRS scandal," and said that things are awkward politically because essentially everyone else agrees with them on this scandal. She acknowledged the "improper scrutiny" being given to conservatives groups that seemingly eluded their liberal counterparts.
Maddow highlighted how the same IRS Cincinatti office involved in the targeting scandal released documents to ProPublica for the site's series of posts on groups misleading the IRS about their political activities. Documents were provided for a number of conservative groups, even from nine that were not approved yet by the IRS, which is technically illegal because "it's supposed to be secret" if an application has not been approved.
When ProPublica attempted to find out why exactly they were given the documents, Maddow said the IRS's response was basically "We shouldn't have done that!" She admitted that the agency "screwed up here" and could end up making its level of scrutiny worse after this week.
